"Thank you for having me as your celebrant.
My draft blog says it all.
Every now and then you get to deliver a ceremony for a couple who are amazing individuals and when you come together to marry them you get an absolutely amazing ceremony that just rocks. (It is important to say that every couple have their own unique ceremony by the way and you can't compare ceremonies).
Laurie and Mike created a ceremony that had lots of laughter and everyone enjoyed.
Laurie in her own style had James and Erika (her two adult children) walk her into a calm waiting Mike.
Erika read "A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton" and she read it so well and was so well suited to the couple.
They read their vows and I am a little worried, what I might look like, in photos, when this was read by Mike:
"When I met you, you were strong, full of energy and you really embraced things that brought you happiness and joy. You have the ability to really smile and make those around you smile too.
I want you to understand that you are not my handicap! But I won’t let my handicap come between us."
Haha not to be out done Laurie shared her vows and see the highlighted point - everyone laughed but I think it was made in all seriouness!!
"When I met you, you made me laugh and surprised me in many different ways, you still do!
I love your openness and kind hearted nature.
These were the qualities you demonstrated when not only did you take me into your heart , but you graciously accepted James and Erika and all the family and friends who I bought along with me.
I will be there for you always, through life’s trials and joys.
I promise to be honest and open with you, you will NEVER need to wonder what I am thinking.
I will nurture our marriage with the constant love and respect it deserves.
You are my best friend, my soul mate and I look forward to us travelling through life side by side ...dreaming, talking, laughing, and sharing.
I will love you today, tomorrow and the rest of my life.
There were a few secrets but you are allowed to have secrets when they a nice secrets and involved in a wedding ceremony. Yes, I believe Mike had taken Laurie's engagement ring to get cleaned as that was to be used in the ceremony. In the box that James presented there was a new wedding ring. Much to the delight and surprise of Laurie.
Then Laurie was to give her surprise to Mike. Mike had said right at the beginning that he would not wear a wedding ring. However, Laurie surprised him with a lovely watch and he was pleasantly surprised.
Oh yes a delightful couple looking great, wonderful venue - Kate Shepherd House, great guests. an altogether great wedding. It was indeed my honour to be the Celebrant at Mike and Laurie's wedding.
Congratulations Mike and Laurie now husband and wife.
PS: The greatest challenge (well the only challenge) was to get people to sit in the chairs becuase it makes the photos look great and makes the couple feel close to the guests. Blog on that soon.
