We all want that secret! Well I remember reading an article, I found in a magazine, the secret of staying young lies in our childhood. We need to go back to those days when we played and had fun, we laughed a lot. If we can go back we will, live much longer.
So what I am suggesting is you need to go back to those qualities that hopefully marked your childhood. I know I was lucky to have had curiosity, flexibility, openness, joyfulness and spontaneity.
So if we use those same traits in our daily lives now, our emotional wellbeing and physical health would have a positive move forward. So the consequence would then be you would live longer.
So the secret is out. It’s very easy.
Remember the way you learnt to retain your excitement and set goals; maintain your level of enthusiasm and of course excitement. Those are all the things we need to be doing throughout our lives.
I am sure you could do some research to find out what it is in measurable terms. Personally, I just need to know that those things are making a difference and keep doing them.
I heard that in Christchurch there is 1 dog for every 10 people. All those people with dogs know that loving a dog (well any pet) promotes well-being. Your blood pressure will drop when you stroke or pat a dog (pet) – so there is your excuse to have a pet, if you were thinking about it.
I have researched for some ideas to encourage the child within.
SMILE – uses more muscles in your face and makes you and the person who sees that you are smiling, feel great.
DANCE – dance like no one is watching and even if they are who cares. A wonderful attitude to adopt!
SING – so, so good for the soul and the brain, it’s like having a brain massage.
LAUGH and CRY – watch your children if you need to know how to laugh. They find something funny and they really do laugh. To cry watch a sad movie.
HAVE a PET – pets are great company so if you are feeling lonely that is even more important still.
LOVE – I should have put this at the top. Emotionally connecting with another person when you are in love is empowering.
GO out into the world – explore, seek out new people, remember to cherish the old. Ask questions and use your imagination.
LUMOSITY – or something similar. This is an on-line set of games that improves your recall and memory.
PLAY – play like you see your children playing. Play with high spirits and remember what makes children giggle. Yes a good tickle and playfulness.
And finally – WRITING – write a daily list of what you are grateful for.
In summary, were you told to act your age at some stage in the past? Forget that! For your well-being, you want to have fun like you did in your childhood. It might be just, letting go, relaxing and enjoying the moment. Whatever you choose to do, remember it is the secret of staying young.
