Last year I received a request to be a Celebrant for two women travelling from Australia. There plan was to travel to Christchurch, New Zealand in February this year (2014) and of course get married.
Vivian and Natalie from Perth in Western Australia arrived with all the plans in place. A simple ceremony was required and the witnesses were a couple from Mt Pleasant, Jill and Ruth. These delightful women came with a cake and knife (not part of the brief) but very pleasant indeed.
I asked Natalie if there was anything they wanted on record and this is there delightful message.
“Equality is what we wanted!
To be able to come to Christchurch to exchange our vows was a dream come true.
We were so excited when arriving in Christchurch. The first thing we did, was go for a drive up to the Port Hills to see where we had chosen to exchange ours vows.
The day finally arrived and with our white dresses on we made it to The Sign of the Takahe.
To be standing in front of each other on the day with the most amazing views and the smell of the fresh air and lovely people to witness our personal vows and exchanging of rings, was the most precious moment in our lives.
The whole day was amazing, New Zealand is God’s Country.
Vivian and Natalie”
Now, do you get why I am honoured to be a Celebrant?
