This morning I finally got to meet Geoffrey and Gavin and husband and wife friends, George and Megan.
They had traveled from New South Wales to Christchurch to get married on the Peak above Stony Bay. To avoid driving for several hours and then walking for several more we all flew in a helicopter with our pilot Matt.
It was an adventure that started with a little stress and nervousness after the need to give next of kin contact details and the need to wear life jackets and what to do in an emergency. All very necessary as we were going over water and no different to if you are flying in a plane. Everyone wanted to use the bathroom before we left and there was only one!
The advantage being we were all closely packed in with our headphones and microphones on for communication. I suggested to Matt he deliberately turned mine off so they couldn’t hear me. He assured me he didn’t. I was impressed with Matt’s knowledge and being able to point interesting things out to our overseas visitors. You will find the photos attached stunning even though they were taken by me – Matt took us to a great location.
Sitting behind Matt and beside Gavin, Gavin told me that his Mother was a Celebrant. He spoke with a sense of pride and although early in her career she is a obviously a great Celebrant! It would appear Celebrants to lots more work in terms of paper work that we do here.
A very special flight to our wedding destination.
A very brief ceremony with temporary rings was conducted. We signed the paperwork and then it was more photos and bubbly to drink. Then Matt took George up in the helicopter to do a few aerial shots as they circled three times and then we were back in the helicopter to travel back.
We flew over Akaroa and over the hills and past my house – was a bit disoriented but I think I got an aerial photo of it before we flew over the city and headed back.
The four of them are around Christchurch for a few more days and then heading around the South Island on Honeymoon. Yes they are good friends. If I have it correct they traveled on honeymoon, the four of them, after George and Megan got married.
How lucky is Christchurch to have such nice visitors.
Congratulations Geoffrey and Gavin, it was awesome to be your Celebrant.
Wishing you a long and happy life together as husband and husband.
Matt from "Way to Go Heliservices" was great and I told him I would happily promote his service so I could have another adventure.
