Two women were discussing a book they had both been reading “Throw Out Fifty Things”. They were raving on about how amazing this book was and how empowered they were feeling having read and started clearing the clutter. The book as they described it had real people stories of their own experiences and how they cleared clutter and what it made them feel. How could I resist reading such a book.
What did I do? YES, immediately found my kindle and downloaded a copy of the book they raved about “Throw Out Fifty Things”. Even the title of the book makes you want to get moving to “Throw Out Fifty Things”. Clear the Clutter, Find Your Life. Gail Blanke is a columnist and writes Real Simple.
So did I feel empowered? I certainly did! My mind started buzzing! What project, would I tackle first? How many points would I be able to get, I am goal directed. I was excited and empowered by just reading a few pages.
I think back to the time, when I first became challenged by clutter. I think it was when I met the man who was to become my husband. We were both independent individuals. We had comfortable lives, set up in our own houses. The only differences were he was a man and had his interests, golf, fishing, and hunting. Myself a woman with my own interests. Oh and he had a dog. Funny enough, a beautiful Labrador that I had always dreamed of owning (another blog one day). Imagine his dismay when he said to move in and with apparent haste, I had a moving truck at his door. I think he was shell-shocked when he saw everything I had with me. We both laughed but I think it was then it all started. We were destined to be living in clutter. Yes he had an area between the garage and under the house that you could put lots of stuff. Yes stuff is another word for clutter. After I moved in, there was some serious life changing events and I ended up with a heap of business stuff to add into the storage (clutter).
So back to the book. I can see myself working through the book and de-cluttering my life. Identifying what is clutter! Working out the time to clear the clutter! Having a plan of how to get rid of the clutter. I know I will find 50 things to throw out.
I am rather, excited we have already taught our daughter to let stuff go, so that more can come into her life. It’s frightening when she has a cleanout. I can’t get in her bedroom door! Anything she has not worn, go out. Things that she has grown out of go – go out. Things that are associated with a young age - go out. No hanging on to anything at all! I feel blessed that she does not have the clutter bug. Imagine the sense of freedom that she has.
Time to read another chapter! It’s time to be inspired to de-clutter some more! It’s time to gain some more points – working on getting to my 50 things! Have you got 50 things you can clear out of your life?
So I am going to challenge people to declutter their lives. Each week, I will challenge my followers on Facebook to declutter and we will see if we can indeed Throw out Fifty things together!! Will you have the courage to join me?
Recommendation: Get your kindle and buy the book!
