"Hi Julie, My fiance and I are looking for a wedding celebrant for our wedding on Saturday 14th March (5pm) but really dont know where to start. Do you have availability that day or are you booked up? I would be keen to hear more.
That is the kind of invitation I love to receive and on meeting the couple I discovered they were the kind of couple I loved to marry. They told me their friend Kim Hamblin was going to be their photographer and knowing she only does wedding photos no, for special couples, I knew this couple were indeed special!
Why would Kim be only doing a few weddings - she has the most gorgeous son and is specialising in childrens photography now.
I was asked to mention before the bride arrived that no photos or electronic devices be used for the ceremony as Lisa and Jason had arranged for a professional photographer, Kim Hamblin to capture these special moments.
Lots of couples are now getting Celebrants to give messages to the guests.
Who wants lots of cameras and phones and ipads etc in the line of photographer.
I was able to share the story of how Jason and Lisa first met through the Christchurch tramping club on a social evening and picnic at Corsair Bay. Who would have thought such a meeting would result in a wedding.
Lisa is an avid tramper and Jason I was told to tell the guests, an avid socialiser. Apparently the first thing Lisa noticed about Jason was his Thundercat boat, as years earlier, she had raced in them. Some of the guests would have remembered that Lisa broke her back Thundercat racing so not wanting to jeoparize her back any further she declined Jasons offer of 'a Ride' and sat on the beach while Jason ferried others around.
I really enjoyed being the Celebrant for Jason and Lisa. A lovely couple who did it their way.
"Thanks for such a beautiful ceremony. It was just how we imagined it to be!"
