I feel very honoured that and these two lovely guys had chosen me to share their wedding day.
For two very private guys a small wedding is the best way for them to formalise their commitment. Small wedding indeed, Vicki and Richard (friends acting as witnesses); myself as they need a Celebrant; Graham, the photographer. So the smallest kind of wedding you can have.
That’s not to say they will not be telling people they are married. It is just easier to marry and then tell everyone.
They have had a very tight window in which to marry.
The George was very helpful and a special mention of another Daniel, doing a great job to pull together the plan. Ceremony at 11.00am; upstairs for drinks to which I am invited (very nice gesture); 11.35am – early lunch and at 2.00pm flying. So they had four hours in Auckland where they told me they would be ringing people and saying they are married. So hopefully everyone knows now!
I know they will feel very blessed that they are now married; they have been together for 15 years. It was evident by the lovely banter that was shared that these guys knew each other and their guests very well.
As I asked Rhys followed by Daniel to share their vows you could feel deep inside that these two were making a heartfelt commitment. I love my job and when I look past the couple in these intimate weddings and see tears in the witnesses eyes and just beyond them the lovely Daniel (in charge of making everything come together from The George) – yes tears in his eyes as well, I have to look up so I don’t have tears falling as well.
Over drinks, I checked with the happy couple, and they were travelling to San Francisco. I have been there – such a great place to be. I am told they are meeting friends there in a few days. I am not sure the friends realise, they are going to be part of the honeymoon!
As I left, I saw Richard in the carpark. He was one of the awesome witnesses who had been jumping with excitement, before, during and after the ceremony. He said "That was so great!" In all honesty – I said back “Now you know why I love what I do!!”
