How lucky am I? Answer: Very lucky!
I really thought everyone wanted to be married now because they have that choice. It was pleasantly surprising that Zach and Richard wanted a Civil Union ceremony. They have their own plan and I am happy to be part of it.
The two guys were so relaxed and we gathered at Riccarton House in Kahu Road. We were heading into Deans Bush to find a particular spot that they wanted to have their ceremony in.
We all found it entertaining that we did a circuit of Dean’s Bush before the track was identified and we all gathered. Very much a family gathering with close friends. Very, very special to have that visible support.
I was asked to tell everyone that it was a short ceremony but it does not detract from the significance of the event and the importance in Zach and Richard’s life.
The language of course is “do you take Richard to be your lawful civil partner, to love and respect him, to put him before all others and protect him for as long as you both shall live?”
They shared their own vows.
They had Nigel and Franz to bring the rings forward
An all round lovely ceremony with a lovely couple and special family and friends.
Wishing Zach and Richard an awesome life together as Civil Union Partners.
